Power Density & Efficiency Become Bottlenecks for Innovations and Emerging Tech
The increased use of electric and electronic devices around the world has continued to raise the demand for more power supply units. However, various devices today have highly specific specifications and required features, including better power efficiency and power density, and power supply systems are being designed with minimum energy losses and better efficiency to power new systems. Other trends that have become the norm in power supply design include features such as miniaturization, renewable energy, and smart grid integration. One of the methods to achieve this is by utilizing Gallium Nitride (GaN) and Silicon Carbide (SiC) to achieve higher efficiency, power switching, and power density.
Introducing IC Taiwan Grand Challenge
To boost Taiwan’s position as a global semiconductor powerhouse, the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) organizes the IC Taiwan Grand Challenge. Focusing on teams actively leveraging innovative IC design to develop advanced application solutions or enhanced technologies, the ICTGC puts special attention on teams in the fields of AI Core Technologies and Chips, Smart Mobility, Smart Manufacturing, Smart Medtech, and Sustainability. WISE-INTEGRATION was selected as one of the winners in the Sustainability category with their WiseGan & WiseWare.
WiseGan & WiseWare Triple Power Density and Efficiency
As a spinoff of CEA-LETI, WISE-INTEGRATION focuses on building 2 key components in a power converter to triple their power density and efficiency from 100W to 7kW systems: WiseWare and WiseWare. WiseGan is a GaN Power IC implementing switch, driver, and protection features. It is a 700V E-Mode GaN Power IC in a DFN package that unlocks high-frequency switching to enable superior system efficiency and compact design. This will enable power supply manufacturers to develop products with low system BOM, small package outline with high-density power converters, lower charger weight, and ultra-fast switching time.
WiseWare is a digital AC-DC controller with proprietary high-speed firmware designed to fully leverage the advantages of Gallium Nitride (GaN) technology. With switching frequencies reaching up to 2 MHz, WiseWare® enables compact, efficient, and high-performance AC-DC power converters. With proprietary real-time optimization algorithms, WiseWare provides Zero Voltage Switching (ZVS), delivers superior power density, reduces energy losses, and simplifies system architectures.
WISE-INTEGRATION’s innovations adapt to the specificities and technical features of electronic products. With TSMC-manufactured chips, WISE-INTEGRATION has won several awards in France & Europe and had 2 successful fundraising rounds, with the latest one led by imec. Expand with support from their historic shareholders. In September 2024, they also successfully raised their Series B funding, which was joined by Applied Ventures and ITIC.
